About Us

Colonial Braided Rug Company® was founded in 1946. It has been owned and operated by the same family since 1978. Our business has continued to grow all of these years because of our outstanding quality and personalized customer service. We are constantly adding new color combinations and designs to keep up with the latest trends in home décor.

Even though all of our rugs are made to order and are manufactured at our facility in Shelby, NC, our turnaround time is usually less than two weeks.

Our yarn is special ordered and made to our specifications. The yarn is 100% American made in Dalton, GA. Over the years we have manufactured rugs using nylon, cotton, wool, polyester or acrylic yarn. We now use a spun polypropylene yarn called Olefin. This is by far the strongest most colorfast fiber we have ever used. It has the look and feel of wool but is far more durable. Our rugs are reversible, machine washable, and are so durable that they can even be used outside. Unlike other fibers that start out as a natural color and are soaked in dye, this Olefin fiber can even withstand pet “accidents” and not lose any color.

Our most popular rug design is our Trademarked “Joseph’s Coat” where every rug is unique. You select four to six colors or choose from one of our many standard JC combinations.

I personally have been involved in this business since 1983. I purchased CBR in 1990 when my parents were ready to retire. I know every inch of this business from running braid, sewing rugs, packaging the finished product to sewing machine repair but my “field of expertise” is rug design. I can modify any of our patterns to perfectly match your décor or start from scratch. I am always available to discuss the “look” you are after whether it may be Primitive, Country, Americana, Colonial or Contemporary. I can design a custom rug for you. We send out color samples with a catalog free of charge. This takes out all of the “guesswork.” You will see the exact color shades before your purchase and you will know exactly what you are getting.

This website lists “standard’ sizes only. If you have an odd size breakfast nook, for example, you may order in inches. The rugs are priced by the square foot and since our rugs are made to order, it matters not to us if we are making you a standard 7’ x 9’ or an 80”x106.” The manufacturing process is still the same as well as the delivery time. For special sizes you will need to call us direct.

If you have any questions or concerns call our 800 number and ask for me personally. If you call after hours, there is a number stated on our answering machine message, where you can reach someone 24/7.

I look forward to the opportunity to provide you with all of your braided rug needs.
